Company Experiences:

During the course of our research, we had the opportunity to ask the candidates that are associated with several renowned companies, including Wipro, IBM, HTC Global Services, Capgemini, Masket Pvt Ltd, Mphasis, RAW Bank, CRS Global Services, NPWT, and IDC Technologies. These companies represent diverse industries.

Overall Interview Experience:

During our research, we asked the candidates about their overall interview experiences, and the majority of participants expressed positive sentiments. A remarkable 47.4% described their experiences as excellent, while 31.6% considered them good. Only a small percentage reported average (10.5%) or below average/poor (5.3%) experiences. This highlights the generally positive nature of the interview process across these companies.

Demotivating Factors in Online Interviews:

Online interviews have become increasingly common, and candidates have identified certain factors that can demotivate them during such interviews. The majority (57.9%) expressed that panellist turning off their video was the biggest demotivating factor. Additionally, 31.6% felt discouraged when panellists interrupted them mid-sentence, while 36.8% found it demotivating when panellists immediately jumped into asking questions. These insights emphasize the importance of maintaining engagement and communication during virtual interviews.

Key Focus Areas for Interviewers:

When asked about the areas interviewers should focus on the most, the responses varied. However, the majority (63.2%) emphasized the significance of subject knowledge during the interview. Candidates believe that demonstrating expertise in the field is crucial. Additionally, 47.4% emphasized the importance of communication skills, while 31.6% highlighted the need for strong subject presentation skills. Interestingly, 26.3% mentioned that interviewers should prioritize candidates who can join the organization at the earliest.

Satisfaction with Interviewer Conduct:

Regarding the conduct of interviewers, opinions were diverse. While 42.1% expressed satisfaction, 26.3% remained neutral. A notable 21.1% reported being very satisfied, while 5.3% were dissatisfied or very dissatisfied. These varying responses underscore the importance of consistent and professional behaviour from interviewers, ensuring a positive experience for candidates.

Feedback and Assessment:

Receiving adequate feedback is invaluable for candidates seeking to improve their skills and performance. Unfortunately, 26.3% reported not receiving any feedback from the HR or interview panel. On the other hand, 42.1% received detailed feedback, while 31.6% received minimal feedback. Timely and constructive feedback is essential for candidates to learn from their interview experiences and grow professionally.

Interviewer’s Knowledge and Preparedness:

Candidates were asked to rate the interviewer’s knowledge about the position and company on a scale of 1 to 10. The responses varied, with 10.5% rating it a perfect 10 and 21.1% rating it an 8. However, a small percentage (15.8%) rated the interviewer’s knowledge as average or below average. Interviewers must demonstrate a deep understanding of the role and organization to establish credibility and engage candidates effectively.

Ideal Interview Length:

When asked about the ideal interview length, the majority (63.2%) felt that the interviews they had experienced were of an appropriate duration. However, 21.1% considered the interviews too long, while 15.8% found them too short. Striking a balance between covering essential aspects and respecting the candidates’ time is crucial to conducting effective interviews.

Follow-up Questions and Delving Deeper:

The majority of respondents (68.4%) indicated that there were enough follow-up questions during their interviews to delve deeper into their qualifications. This signifies the interviewers’ efforts to gain a comprehensive understanding of the candidates’ capabilities and potential fit for the role.

Preferred Interview Modes:

With the rise of virtual communication, it is not surprising that 73.7% of candidates expressed a preference for virtual interviews. However, 15.8% believed telephone interviews were the best, while 10.5% favoured in-person interviews. Interviewers should consider candidates’ preferences and adapt their approach to creating a comfortable and productive interview environment.

Genuine Interest from Interviewers:

When asked if they sensed genuine interest from the interviewers in their background and qualifications, 42.1% responded with a definite yes, and 31.6% felt that the interviewers were mostly interested. On the other hand, 5.3% felt that the interest was lacking. Demonstrating genuine interest in candidates helps create a positive and engaging interview atmosphere.

Conclusion:

Interview experiences play a significant role in shaping candidates’ perceptions of companies and their decision to pursue opportunities further. By understanding the candidates’ perspectives and preferences, interviewers can refine their processes and create a more positive and effective interview experience.
